BACKGROUND
The First National Conference of Women, "Nature, Women, Resistance versus looting of Natural Resources" was held in the year 2006 in the community Yunganza Region Indanza Limón, Morona Santiago province, affected by the presence of the mining Dayanara.
In September 2007 Meeting was held on National Women's II: "Dialogue for Life", in the parish of the canton Portete Victoria Cuenca, Azuay Province, as part of the Dialogues for Life began in August of that year by the National Coordinating Committee for the Defence of Life and Sovereignty - CNDVS.
Later in March 2008 is organized in the city of Cuenca Latin American Encounter of women leaders "FOR THE RIGHT TO DEFEND OUR RIGHTS" and create the Latin American Union of Women Ulam of the Defenders of the Pachamama are founding members.
In 2009, due to the risk and persecution by the state and the government against the defenders of the Pachamama for its resistance to the mega-mining projects, with several companions prosecuted criminally, it makes the III National Meeting WOMEN: "Stop the criminalization and prosecution of rights defenders, on 6 March in the city of Cuenca, March 7 in the parish Indanza Region Limon province of Morona Santiago, and on 8 March Molleturo Region Cuenca, Azuay Province, culminating with a march of solidarity and demand the closure of judicial proceedings the city of Cuenca.

As part of the commemoration of International Women's Day on March 8th and WORLD WATER DAY on March 22nd, THE WOMEN'S MEETING 4th and 1st MEETING OF THE GUARDIANS OF THE AMAZON will Be held in Tzawata, in the Napo province, on March 21st and 22nd and in Cuenca on March 23rd and 24 th, organized by The Women "Defenders of the Pachamama" Front and The "Guardians of the Amazon", both members of the National Coordinator for the Defense of Life and Sovereignty - CNDVS, and the Latin American Union of Women - ULAM, in conjunction with the Kichwa people of Tzawata-Sumak Allpa-Chucapi and The Amazonian Commune youth organization.

In September 2007, The 2nd National Women's Meeting called "Dialogue for Life" was held in the Victoria del Portete parish, in the Cuenca area, in the Azuay province, as part of the Dialogues for Life, which had been started in August of that year by the National Coordinator for the Defense of Life and Sovereignty - CNDVS.
Later, in March 2008, The Latin American Meeting of Women Leaders "FOR THE RIGHT TO DEFEND OUR RIGHTS" was held in the city of Cuenca and The Latin American Union of Women- ULAM was founded. The Defenders of the Pachamama are founding members.
In 2009, there was a dangerous persecution of the Defenders of the Pachamama carried out by the state and the government because of their resistance to the mega-mining projects, with several comrades prosecuted. The 3rd National Women’s Meeting called "Stop the prosecution of right defenders” was held in the city of Cuenca on March 6th, in the Indanza parish, in the Limón area, in the Morona Santiago province on March 7th and in Molleturo, in the Cuenca area, in the Azuay province, on March 8th. It ended with a demonstration of solidarity in the city of Cuenca and the demand for stopping legal proceedings against our comrades.
